Calamine Cottage Reviews

Rene
Great cottage. We really loved our stay!
Helen
Cottage is very lovely and ideal for short stay, there is a lack of storage for a longer stay especially in the second bedroom. We also found out the road outside the cottage is used by lorries going back and forth to quarry situated further up the road, it wasnâ??t quite as peaceful as weâ??d hoped. But would still visit Cromford again as itâ??s a beautiful village with lovely people.
Susan
Cottage was warm and in a good location though the main road was noisy. We were 4 adults which didnâ??t really work, the 2nd bed wasnâ??t a full 4ft 6, lack of comfortable seating in the lounge. Overall it seemed like no care or pride was given to the cottage. Whilst we appreciate it was a very old house looking at other holiday letâ??s it falls way short of them.
Debbie
Cottage is lovely and in a central position for the town - and the allocated parking space is close and in a private car park so felt safe and easy to access. There are so many beautiful walks from the door, and historical buildings/leisure activities to explore if it rains - too much to cover in a week! It was clean, warm and welcoming with plenty of kitchen equipment for self catering every meal. However, a family of four with grown up children might find it a squeeze. It is on three floors so not suitable for those with mobility issues - and those on the top floor do need to negotiate uncarpeted stairs to the bathroom at night, if needed, which feel a bit slippy. Noise from traffic is an issue if you are a light sleeper - we did move out a day early as my friend was woken very early (4.30am) by lorries passing, even with ear plugs. But I should say that I slept well - and I wouldn't say I am a heavy sleeper.
Barbara
Very comfortable well equipped accommodation conveniently situated for arrival by train as well as close to frequent bus services. There is a wealth of interesting industrial history in the area and wonderful walking country straight from the door. The only negative comment I can make is that it is situated on a busy main road and heavy traffic starts early. Secondary glazing helps but noise could be a problem for some.
Jan
A brilliant little cottage just ideal for an escape and restful time. A couple of hiccups encountered on arrival but the owner was extremely attentive to the issues which was reassuring. The week went really well and many new places visited just loved the Mill and the canal both worth the visit.
Stephen
Well located cottage but is located on a main road to a quarry- HGV wagons and tankers run from 4am in the morning until late in the evening- very noisy inside the cottage due to this - double glazing and curtains ( instead of wooden shutters ) would help with this - we cut our stay by two nights due to this - nothing mentioned in description by vendor.
Julie
Lovely little cottage, very clean and well situated within walking distance to town with shops , pubs etc and a 10 minute walk to Cromford Mill. Canal boat trip well worth it. Only here for 2 nights and will definitely book again for a longer stay as so much so see and do nearby .
Debs
Good transport links, bus stop @ 5 min walk and train station @ 20 min walk from house. Read the description fully, as main bedroom on 3rd floor and bathroom on 2nd floor. Gets noisy from quarry wagons and traffic on road so take earplugs for night/early morning. Robinsonâ??s fish and chip shop is amazing (round corner from The Boat pub). Thereâ??s an amazing chocolatiers and homemade ice cream shop and an artisan cheese shop both within 10 walk . The top terrace is a sun trap but take a blanket to hang over the washing line as thereâ??s no parasol and steps are steep but thereâ??s a handrail . Great location for exploring and walking.
Jane
Beautiful cottage, fantastic location, amazing walking and scenery. Really friendly little town. The road is noisy and the quarry lorries continuous but I would, without hesitation, stay here again.
Deborah
Beautiful accommodation set in a stunning location. Cottage is warm and cosy, beautifully presented with all home comforts. The owner was on hand to give advice on local attractions and also knowledgeable about local history. We had a lovely break and would very much like to return one day.
Rita
Excellent the way the historical character of the cottage is preserved. Very comfortable beds, good WiFi and everything else working well.
Karen
Lovely cottage with good quality, comfortable furnishings. Well presented.
Caragh
Beautiful cottage, in a great position for exploring the Peak District
Eleanor
Absolutely lovely cottage in a gorgeous setting. Comfortable and clearly well looked after. The local shop sells amazing bacon and eggs, Scarthin Books is a lovely place to pass an afternoon, and that's just the attractions within 2minutes. Steps up to the seating area in the garden (with a view over the rooftops) are steep and uneven so bear that in mind if you'll struggle with it, but there is a railing and the view is worth it - a real sunspot in the mornings. Cottage had everything I needed and I really enjoyed my stay!
Dianne
Lovely cottage in great location. Perfect base for exploring the surrounding area. Good local amenities and off road parking near to the cottage.
Peter
Very nice cottage. Well decorated. Very clean. Hopefully we can come back soon.
Kim
Lovely cottage.Well equipped. Great location with lovely pubs and walks nearby and fabulous scenic places just a short drive away.
Amanda
Beautiful area. Cottage outstanding
Simon
Overall we had a good stay. The cottage was really lovely but missing a few touches that would have made the stay perfect. No welcome pack seem mean. Loading and unloading on that busy road was fun but we were ready for that and not too bad in the end. The busy road was a bit noisy at times. Nice to have off road parking. Cromford is a lovely village. It's a short walk to the Boat down Scarthin Rd. Highly recommended. We ate there on their Pie and Steak nights. Fantastic value food. The local shop was well stocked and we had some massive rolls(cobs locally) made up. We had a couple of lovely walks from the door and Matlock Bath is a long stroll away. Buses to further afield are only £2 per single fare.
Liz
Generally a good cottage. A bit dark but good value for money
Paul
Lovely accommodation set out over three levels with all the local amenities within walking distance. Busy road at the front that makes unloading and loading a bit tricky, but only downside to location.
Andrew
Nice cosy cottage in a picturesque area. Friendly local people. Good place to stay would certainly recommend it.
